Short Term Disability (STD) insurance provides you with weekly income if you are unable to work or have a reduced income due to illness or injury unrelated to your occupation.

Bartow County School System offers two plans for disability:

A 14-day or 30-day elimination period through Cigna.

  • Employees who are newly eligible for this benefit will not need to complete a medical Evidence of Insurability-EOI.
  • Employees who did not enroll in STD when it was initially offered at date of hire, you must wait until the next open enrollment period, and you will be required to complete and EOI, online.
  • Election of this benefit does not guarantee coverage.  Coverage will be pending EOI approval from Cigna.

Weekly Benefit is 60% of pre-disability earnings up to a Max of $2,000

Elimination Period for Accident/Sickness: 14/14 or 30/30

Benefits Duration Period: 26 weeks after elimination period is complete

Long Term Disability

Long term disability is intended to offer financial protection of you income for a longer duration after you have exhausted your short term disability benefits and any sick leave that you have accrued.

  • Employees who are newly eligible for this benefit will not need to complete a medical Evidence of Insurability-EOI.
  • Employee who did not enroll in LTD when it was initially offered at date of hire, you must wait until the next open enrollment period, and you will be required to complete and EOI, online.
  • Election of this benefit does not guarantee coverage.  Coverage will be pending EOI approval from Cigna.

Montly Benefit is 60% of pre-disability earnings up to a Max of $10,000

Elimination Period: 180 days

Benefits Duration Period: SSNRA (Social Security Normal Retirement Age)

Pre-Existing Condition: 3/12
