Retirement Plans

Bartow County School System participates in the Social Security System.

 

Teacher Retirement Service (TRS):

Eligible employees are required to participate in TRS. Deductions will be taken from your monthly payroll check.

All personnel employed in a permanent status position, not less than half-time, with local boards of education, charter schools, universities and colleges, technical colleges, Board of Regents, county and regional libraries, RESA’s, and certain State of Georgia agencies are required to be members as a condition of employment.

Temporary, less than half-time, and private school employees are not eligible for TRS membership. Substitute teachers are considered temporary employees and are not eligible for membership in TRS.

 Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS):

Generally, membership in PSERS is a condition of employment for people who are employees of participating public-school systems and who are not eligible for membership in the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) or the Employees’ Retirement System of Georgia (ERS).  For example, the following individuals are eligible for membership in PSERS:

  • School bus drivers • School lunchroom personnel • School maintenance personnel • School custodial personnel

Supplemental Retirement Vendors:

Employees may elect additional retirement options through any of the below approved vendors. It is your responsibility as an employee to contact the retirement vendor. The approved vendors will contact the Benefits and Payroll Department to set up deductions.
